My MS Journey

In 2004 my MS journey began with feelings of numbness in my legs and hands. I was not sure what the issue was until my coworker told me that she had a friend with similar issues and she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Within a few days after tests I was told I had the same thing. My initial thought went to Richard Pryor, who was diagnosed with MS years before his death. I thought the remaining part of my life would be in a wheelchair. When I told my pastor, the first thing she told me was “regardless if you end up in a wheelchair I expect you to do what God has called you to do”.

I have taken her words to heart. Although I am not in a wheelchair, I will continue to do what God has called me to do. MS does not and will not define who I am. I pray that through this battle  I am encouraging someone else to keep pushing past the issues and fulfill their Godly assignment. One of my favorite scriptures during my life with MS is 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT) which says “‘My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness’. So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me”. MS is not who I am. Who I am is a child of God.
